A história do Capitão Gordon é real e incrível. Por exemplo, ele fugiu do Brasil para os EUA em 1852, depois de afundar seu navio negreiro Camargo na costa do Brasil, vestido de mulher. Ele realmente carregava sempre um vestido de mulher do seu tamanho em sua cabine para tal ocasião.

Como parte da promoção de marketing deste filme, em 2023 a Aventuras Produções começou a busca pelo naufrágio do navio escravagista Camargo. Estamos coordenando as pesquisas arqueológicas subaquáticas com a Universidade Federal de Sergipe, Universidade Federal Fluminense, e apoio da George Washington University, the Slave Wrecks Project sediado no National Museum of African American History and Culture do Smithsonian Institution, e outras instituições norte-americanas. Isso levou a fundação do Instituto AfrOrigens e gerará um documentário ou série “Em Busca do Navio Escravagista Camargo” a ser lançado como parte da promoção do lançamento do filme longa-metragem Blackbirder.

Blackbirder, the nickname given to slave traders, has the potential to have a great public interest in the US and Brazil, as the real story takes place in both countries, with iconic characters such as Emperor D. Pedro II and President Abraham Lincoln.

Through the lives of Lincoln, Gordon, and Elizabeth, this true story puts in check the sad period of American history until the tragic Civil War. A powerful story, aligned with the revisionist tendencies of Hollywood, which we believe will be an undisputed commercial success in the US and from there to the world, including Brazil.

This film is a fiction work based on a real-life story narrated in the book “Hanging Captain Gordon”, and the author, Ron Soodalter, is the current president of the Abraham Lincoln Institute in Washington DC, and is also one of the film’s producers. The rights to this work were acquired by Aventuras Produções in April 2019 and transformed into the script that will be produced in Brazil and the USA.

COMPLIMENTARY DOCUMENTARY: “In Search of the Last Slave Ship.”

Captain Gordon’s story is real and amazing. For instance, he escaped from Brazil to the USA in 1852, after sinking his slave ship Camargo on the coast of Brazil, dressed as a woman. He actually carried all times a woman’s dress his size in his cabin for such an occasion.

As part of the marketing promotion for this movie, in 2023 Aventuras Produções started the search for the shipwreck of the slave ship Camargo. We are coordinating the underwater archaeological research with the Universidade Federal de Sergipe, Universidade Federal Fluminense, and the support of George Washington University, the Slave Wrecks Project based in the National Museum of African American History and Culture of Smithsonian Institution, and other American institutions.
This led to the foundation of the AfrOrigens Institute and will generate a documentary or series “In Search of the Slave Ship Camargo”, to be released as part of the promotion for the feature film Blackbirder.
